A Curse Unspeakable

I spoke about this lovely book a few blog posts back. This is by a local Lawrenceburg author and tells a fantasy tale about a group of traveling magic people and the love they find for each other. I found this to be not only extremely well-written but also a fascinating story. Every character is compelling and has an in-depth back story that leaves you wanting more. The best part? There IS more to come!! With two more books in the works, it won't be long before we dive back into this magical world! This would be perfect for any young reader!

The Hobbit

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien is a delightful adventure that whisks you away to a world brimming with magic and wonder. Expect thrilling encounters with trolls, goblins, and Gollum, a creature forever linked to a mysterious ring that Bilbo stumbles upon. Filled with unforgettable characters, fantastical creatures, and Tolkien's rich world-building, The Hobbit is a timeless classic that will captivate readers of all ages.

However, it's important to consider if you're familiar with Tolkien's grand sequel, The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit is a lighter, more lighthearted read compared to the epic scope of its successor.

A Year in Provence

I recently read this book over the spring and enjoyed its ease of storytelling and vivid depictions.  A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle is an immersive memoir chronicling his first year in a charming French farmhouse, set in the late 1980's. Mayle, a British expat, ditches the damp chill of England for the azure skies and vibrant chaos of Provençal life. With self-deprecating humor, he chronicles his adventures – from conquering a rogue swimming pool overflowing with algae to navigating the labyrinthine world of local bureaucracy. Expect sunshine, quirky characters, and mouthwatering descriptions of food and scenery.

When in Rome by Sarah Adams

This is a very cute, well-written, light summer romance! Based around Nashville by a Nashville author, this one felt a little close to home, in the best way! A popstar and a small-town country boy find their way into a little romance that slowly turns into an adorable love story!

Braving the Wilderness

Looking for a bit of personal growth, this is an easy read with a wealth of information! Brene Brown just has a way of explaining your inner self to you in the most perfect way. This is a journey in self-discovery and if you're looking to take a deeper dive, all of her books are EXCELLENT!

Keep Your Friends Close

This is perfect for when you're hoping for a fast-paced, page-turning suspense. A group of Hollywood Housewives have a mom's club mishap and one of the members ends up drowned in the pool. The characters are all so complex, you truly never know "who done it". The was a great beach read!

Tom Lake

Not only is this an adorable story about the growth of families but also Meryl Streep does the narration for the audiobook. A story about a family of cherry tree farmers, the first storyline follows the 3 daughters as they return home to the family farm during Covid. The second storyline is the mother, telling the story of how she dated a famous actor for one summer when they were teenagers. Ann Patchett, another Nashville writer!

The Nightingale

Incredible! If you keep up with all things in the Book World, you've likely heard about The Nightingale and Kristian Hannah. This incredible World War 2 novel about the resillance of women. Two sisters in German occupied France tell their stories of survival. Make sure you purchase a brand new box of tissues before you start this one, you'll need every last one.

Cooking for Picasso

This book was such a surprise for me. I bought this for $1 at my local library book sale right before we went on a vacation. As a lover of all things both Art and Cooking, this seemed right up my alley. Little did I know, it hit all of my favorite touchpoints. Art, Cooking, Paris, Mystery, Love Story. It was literally my own personal, perfect beach read. I felt like i was reading a book specifically curated to me.

Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business

I don't think there's really anything to say about this one. Dolly is my Queen and she can do no wrong. She has an incredible story to tell and I loved reading it.

Remarkably Bright Creatures

A fabulously fascinating story about an older woman working at an aquarium and her blossoming relationship with the resident Octopus. I love how this story came together and I really enjoyed the audio of this one. I have no doubt the physical copy would be just as excellent!

The Awakening

Written in 1899, this shockingly relevant novel is about the expectations put on every woman. Edna does not belong to anyone but herself. I read this lovely book in September of 2023 and I have thought about it every other day since then. This has a place on my forever shelf as one of my favorite books of all time.

Eat, Pray, Love

An oldie but a goodie! Published in 2006, Elizabeth Gilbert shared her journey through Italy, India, and Indonesia. Her journey through pleasure, prayer, friendship, love, and devotion. I loved every moment of her journey. I typically reserve audiobooks for fiction but I accidentally started this one without realizing it was a memoir. I thoroughly enjoyed the audio because Elizabeth did it herself so you truly felt like you were on the journey with her.
